C & L Services Celebrates 48th Year Anniversary and Honors Employees at 7th Annual Family Picnic

On September 14th, 2019, C&L Services marked its 48th year anniversary with its 7th Annual Family Picnic. This annual picnic is scheduled for early fall of every year and, culminating in months of planning and preparation, is held in appreciation of C&L employees and all the hard work they perform throughout the year. All employees of C&L Services are invited and are encouraged to bring their families to share in the festivities.

The annual picnic features award-winning barbeque, smoked brisket, chicken, pulled pork, ribs, hot dogs, and wings. A host of sides are also served, including macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. Also present at the picnic was our favorite DJ, raffles prizes (which include a paid day off with the boss!), tournament games such as horseshoes, bean bag toss, and kickball, and a playground for smaller children.

C&L Annual Picnic – A True Family Get-Together!

One of each of the trucks in C & L Services fleet is present at the picnic, including a broom sweeper, air sweeper, C&L crew pickup truck, box truck, and dump truck. Employees are invited to give their families a tour of their vehicles and allow the children to play inside. The trucks serve as a sense of pride for the employees, and also as a beacon for arriving families of where the picnic is located in the park.

Stevie loves the work he does at C&L, and the award was a way of telling Stevie that C&L loves him back!

The C&L Training Process

Our street Sweeping operators are going through a certification process that has been developed by the experts in the street sweeping industry.  Boasting hundreds of combined years of experience in the street sweeping industry, these experts have developed best practices that have been distilled down to online training modules.  These training modules cover everything from hiring practices, good sleep habits, proper nutrition, sweeper equipment nomenclature, site assessments, what to do and not do after an accident, proper pre and post truck inspections; to name just a few.  Each sweeper operator is required to go through the over 20 educational modules covering these topics and pass a multiple choice test at the end of each module with a perfect score to be able to move onto the next module.  At the end of the modules, the operator will need to pass a cumulative test on all the modules with a perfect score.  They then will be subjected to an oral interview with a trained supervisor to ensure the concepts have been learned.  Once this is completed and it has been established that the operator has at least 1,000 hours of accident free sweeping, they will then be granted a certificate from the North American Power Sweeping Association certifying them as a Certified Sweeping Operator.

Power Washing – Do’s & Don’ts and Why You Should Hire a Professional

Spring has arrived, and with it comes lots of rain and humidity. With this change in weather, your building and property are getting covered in fine layers of dirt, dust, and pollutants carried by runoff. Over time, these areas will get dirtier and dirtier, and will require power washing to make them shine like new.

Before you start a power washing project, it is important to do a thorough inspection of your property and determine the areas that need the most attention. At C&L Services, we recommend checking the following areas:

Here is a full list of the do’s and don’ts of power washing:

DO read your power washer’s operation manual before beginning your project to ensure safe operation.

DO make sure all safety shields and guards are in good working order.

DO check the power washer’s oil levels before each use.

DO wear proper eye, face, and hand protection when operating any equipment.

DO attach nozzles and/or accessories before operation.

DO keep hands and feet clear of the nozzle at all times.

DO consider adding a detergent or other cleaning agent to increase cleaning power.

DO direct the water at a downward angle when cleaning and type of wooden surface. Spraying the surface head-on can cause serious damage or splintering.

DO keep the wand and water jet at least six feet away from any type of electrical wiring, service boxes and entrances. An electrical shock from such devices can be deadly.

DON’T fill the fuel tank while the power washer is running or still hot from operation.

DON’T leave the nozzle closed for more than a minute while the washer is running. Doing so may cause the pump to overheat.

DON’T try to repair a leak in the hose or hose connection while the washer is under power.

DON’T power wash sensitive areas without testing beforehand. Increasing your spraying distance can allow for safe washing.

DON’T place any part of your body in front of the nozzle or point the nozzle at anyone.

DON’T hold the nozzle too close to any surface or for too long in one area – the jet can gouge wood, dent aluminum, tear away stucco, and erode mortar from joints in brick walls. Also, never point the wand directly at windows.

DON’T power wash from a ladder – you need both hands for safe operation. Also, the kickback of the wand can knock you off balance when first turned on. To reach higher places, use an extension wand instead.
